Book Review: A Breath of Snow and Ash

This is another book in the wonderful Outlander Series from Diana Gabaldon. I sure you have figured out by now that I just love these book, might go so far as saying that I am obsessed? This one picks up Claire and Jamie's Story along with Roger and Bree. This book was jam packed full of good stuff-lots a little mysteries going on through out as well as filling in the gaps of some of the story lines from the past books. The end of this book left me a little teary eyed as Roger, Bree, Jem and Mandy head back to their own time, but I am looking forward to finding out what is in store for them.
Don't these buns look yummy? I made these this weekend while I worked on some up coming projects for May (that card is using the Stamp of the Month for May). These buns received 2 thumbs up around here. Find all the info and recipe here. Claire's Nettle Kissed Buns

Project Life 2012: Week 10 &11

First up I decorated the tab for March using a sentiment stamp for Ali Edwards and a mini calendar from CTMH. Week 10 included my birthday, so I had lots of extra things I wanted to add to the book. I used one of the large pockets to hold all of my birthday cards.
Next up there were several pictures from different "birthday events" so I chose to use a 6 x12 page protector. All I did to create the pages for these was create a new document in photo shop and then I just drop in the pictures and text.

Here is the rest of the pictures from Week 10 that didn't really relate to my birthday.

Week 11 is pretty simple. I wanted to try to keep it thin since I was thick from my birthday week stuff.
I used a pliers to flatten out a bottle cap that I wanted to include and then stuck it down with a layer of foam tape.
Lastly since I had all the small pockets this week I choose to cut a picture in half to put into 2 pockets. It wan the only picture that really would work in the vertical position so this worked well.

Envelope Treat Pockets

I spend way too much time on Pinterest.....these were inspired by this project. I used the CTMH Art Philosophy cricut cartridge to cut the envelope (yeap, it has envelopes) and the 3d flowers. I cut the envelopes at 2 3/4" and the cut down the top flap. You will need to use very strong adhesive to assemble the pocket because the chocolates are thick.
I found the felt bunnies in the craft section at Michael's and couldn't leave the cuties at the store. There was also some chicks in the package that are so cute, I will make something with them soon!

How would you like to cut all this yourself? Get your cricut cartridge for FREE this month when you sign up to be a CTMH Consultant. Find all the details here.

Peep Shrinky Dink

I remember Shrinky Dinks from my childhood, but they were never this cute!! I purchased a small kids craft kit from the store that came with colored pencils, shrinky dink paper, hole punch and jump rings. I stamped the My Peeps image with staz on in and then colored. I then followed the directions for cutting and baking.
I also cut the the clear pillow box with the CTMH cricut Cartridge! I cut it at 5 1/4" using the deep cut blade. I know it is hard to see in this picture, but it is there.
You can get you Close to My Heart Cricut Cartridge for FREE this month when you enroll with close to My Heart-Find all the details Here.

Peeps Flower Vase

I am giving you a fair warning, over the next few weeks you are going to see lots of projects using the new My Peeps stamp set!! I am a peeps lover!! In fact a few years ago at CTMH convention in Washington DC I got to go to a Peeps store!! (it was one of the highlights of the trip for me!)
I created this vase using a plain mason jar I had here in the house. I used some paper that was left over from a CTMH special a long time ago, but I still have a small stash of it and the colors were perfect for Easter.
Here you can see that I chose to mask the face of them peep and create the "backside" of the little rabbit-I cute a very small 3D flower from the CTMH Art Philosophy cricut cartridge to make the "bunny tail". (Tip: when you are cutting tiny on the cricut I find it helpful to change the speed to slow)
I also used one of the CTMH springs on the bunny, it is just too cute when that little tail starts to spring!!

Homemade Gift from my Heart

You have to try these yummy, most delicious Chocolate Biscuits! Go here to Mrs. Graham's Chocolate Biscuits from Dragonfly in Amber for the recipe. After I made them I put a few back to take to a friend who had surgery last week. ( And I had to hide the yummy treats, because everyone in my house was head over heels for them. By Sunday I had to make a second batch!)
They Chocolate Biscuits were the perfect size for this tin container I had. I created a simple band to go around the tin and stamped a cute label from the Crafted with Love stamp set.
Here I added a little tag that said "homemade" and on the back I typed the link to the recipe for the biscuits!!

Comic Strip Flower Tutorial

Today I am going to give you a quick lesson on how to make this great flower. This is a fun way to use the Superhero paper pack in a unique way! You can make your strips any size, but for this flower I used 6 strips. (Three-1/2"x 6" and Three-1/4" x 5") You will also need a hole punch, a brad or flower center of some kind and a little adhesive.
Start by creating loops by folding the paper ends to the center and gluing down.
Next punch holes in the center of each loop. Inset the brad through all 6 pieces layering the smaller ones on the top. Fan out to create flower.
I added the flower to a card base along with some great velvet rub-ons from CTMH.

Book Review: The Scottish Prisoner

In keeping with the plan of reading everything my favorite author has written, I read The Scottish Prisoner. This great novel is about Lord John and Jamie Fraser--Jamie is a paroled Jacobite prisoner living and work at a farm in Helwater he is deeply troubled by dreams of his lost wife, then by the appearance of a former comrade from the Rising who still lives and breathes for the Cause. Jamie has sworn off politics, fighting, and war. Until Lord John Grey shows up with a summons that will take him away to help with his own plans. Lord John Grey takes Jamie to Ireland to help translate and right into trouble. This book show just how Jamie and John start to become friends despite their very strong dislike for each other. It also shows just how much respect they have for one another. Lord John grows by leaps and bounds in this book and proves more why I find him so interesting. The book also gives a more clear view of just how hard it was for Jamie while Claire was away for 20 years.

Project Life 2012:Week 8 & 9

Week 8: I was still not feeling up to par so the page was very plain. I did add some Velvet rubons from CTMH-very fun! and a pocket with a list of books that I read in February.

Week 9: The cold finally went away and I couldn't be more thankful. I didn't run for 2 weeks--I could barely breath from my nose just walking, much less running. One of the great things about Project Life is that I get to use up some of the supplies that have been hanging around for awhile. I used some chipboard buttons and an old key to keep in tune with the the vintage theme from my grandmothers bedroom stuff.

I also stamp a fun sentiment right on the picture of our feet!

Adding the little dollie flower really helped bring out the vintage feel from the room decor!
