Book Review: Forsaking the Prize

Abducted at fourteen and sent away to sea, rough and ready sailor Tobias Randall endured exile and cruelty only to have his plans for revenge crumble. He may have made a terrible first impression upon his return to Romsey Abbey, but he has a plan to reclaim his place—he’ll marry quickly and marry a woman of wealth. Yet the perils of life at sea are nothing compared to the danger of attempting polite conversation with a proper lady.

…he reawakened her heart

Blythe, Lady Venables, may be revered as a faithful, proper widow, but a cruel misunderstanding has placed her sanity in doubt. Determined to clear her name, she forms an uneasy truce with the wildest Randall of all, Tobias—a man shamelessly willing to seduce her—to uncover the mystery plaguing Romsey Abbey. With doubts and fears against them, Tobias and Blythe each venture into uncharted territory – love and scandal.

I have to say that I think Tobias Randall is awesome. I haven't read book 3, but I think it's safe to say he is my favorite brother! His life was so hard, but he over came and he is such a sweet man. His attention to Blythe is so sweet and I love that her house staff is in the know that they will soon be together!
There were a lot of little things about the story I liked one especially was how she called him a pirate and he called her B. The plot was easy to follow and didn't take away from the romance of their blossoming relationship. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. Tobias returns thinking of  revenge a but he becomes a staunch ally for the family, and for the lovely woman he begins to care for. Blythe learns that she does not have to live her life still in mourning for what she lost, and that she can find another to fill her life and her heart with love.

  1. This makes me think of a series of books that I've read and still own by Brenda Joyce. Check out the de Warenne Dynasty series. I started with "The Prize". Very good series, easy to read, and definitely I had a favorite brother from the series, too. :)
