Book Review: The Language of Flowers

I really enjoyed this book, as some who is around flowers daily it was very interesting to learn about the meanings of flowers. This is the story of a young girl who has been in the foster care system her whole life, and she has issues with just about everyone and every situation. One of her foster mothers teaches her about flowers and their meanings. As she ages out of the system she finds herself homeless and jobless. She struggles with this, but finds a job in a flower shop. She helps other with her skills using the flowers meaning. Because of her past she has issues letting other people love and help her. In the end she learns to love and returns to the foster mother to live a wonderful life.

{4 my friend}

This card was inspired by a card by Dawn McVey, when I saw the card I knew that I wanted to recreate it because of the layered butterflies.  One of the great images that the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge cuts out are butterflies. Nesting butterflies are great!

Old Window & Craft supplies

If you have spent any time on Pinterest then I am sure you have seen them.....all the great ideas with windows. I recently was given several windows from an old house. This is my first creation with one of them. I chose to decorate it with some things I have been collecting for awhile. I had some old bingo pieces, milk jug top and tape measure.
I added some CTMH cranberry buttons, ribbon and cardstock medallions. I also added some crochet flowers and wooden die cuts.
Once again I have been asked by CTMH to create an Operation Smile Silent Auction Project, and as I start to think of what I might make something like this comes to mind. I wonder, those of you who will be attending is this something you would bid on? Or because of it's size and the glass would you not want to bid? Let me know what you think!

Just a little note

One of the most relaxing things for me is to color, and my favorite way is with the watercolor pencils and the blending pen. That is what I used for the flowers on this card. I also used a lot of sanding to distress the papers. I love the weathered look of sanding, it gives a very worn look that really works well with paper pack-Pemberley.

Here's to You

This card is another great idea for a Graduation card. I used the Dotty for You special paper pack. You can get yours for only $5. Find all the details here.
My favorite part of this card is the clouds-to create the clouds I used a piece of scrap paper with a torn edge. I then used as a mask and sponged in a random pattern.

Project Life: Week 18 &19

It's that time of year when there is not much going on, even the everyday is fairly boring. I need to remember to look for Picture of the Day things like Becky suggests. I am still working on keeping the embellishments flat. I find it fun to challenge myself to do that. I also like the looks of the mailing labels-it gives the page a very "office" feel.

Book Review: Fifty Shades of Grey

Well, I couldn't be left out....If the whole world is reading it, I must too! So I did. All that you have heard about it is true, it is full of S.E.X.. I got a very big education in things I was unaware about.
I have the most problem with the writing, or the lack of it. There is just not much story here, and I wonder how in the world they will make a movie of it?
The story is of Christian Grey, and his very screwed up life. He has some real issues from childhood abuse. He meets a girl and from their they have issues together. She doe seem to have an effect on him and he really acts like he wants to change his ways for her.
The entire story (in fact even the same words are said at points) reminds me very much of the movie Pretty Woman. The ending is kinda a cliff hanger, so I am sure at some point I will read the next book, but I not i a very big hurry, since the writing was pretty lame.

Book Review: Echo in the Bone

After a whole month I finished the last book in the Outlander Series. I wanted to read all the time, but with work being busy I was only getting to read at night. Most of you already know, but this is my all time most favorite series EVER! This is book 7 and the author is currently working on Book 8 (there are also hints that there might be a book 9 even) This book finds Jamie and Claire headed back to Scotland to get Jamie's printing press, but they get a little side tracked and end up smack dab in the middle of the American Revolution. Bree and Roger are back in their own time, but strugling to fit in as well as some major cliff hangers for them at the end of this book. Sweet Young Ian has found Love and I look forward to see where his story goes in book 8.
After reading all 7 books I really wanted to reread all of them, but it took me almost 5 months read all of them and there are so many other books that I want to read as well. So I have downloaded the audio version of all 7 books and have started to listen to them! Listening to this story sure makes laundry, ironing and doing dishes more fun!! Well maybe not fun, but certainly bearable!! I am almost done with the 1st book and I have been listening in the scrapbook room as well. I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, BUT I WILL SAY IT AGAIN-I highly recommend these books, some of the best writing you will ever come across.

At night when I go to be I read other books so there will still be other reviews coming.

Thinking of You

Did you have a great weekend? I sure did! I got lots of things done around the house and in the scraproom. I am working on somethings for June, but broke from that to make this card. I really like the flowers from the Card Word Puzzle stamp set, I like them because the can be colored. I love to color, it so relaxing. I used the watercolor pencils and the blending pen to color these. I finished it off with some brown bakers twine.

Project Life 2012: Week 16 & 17

Both weeks are fairly simple. For Week 16 I focus on all the veggies and flowers coming up around my house and garden.
Here you can see that I used some circle labels from the office supply to point out each plant.
My album is starting to get thick, so for week 17 I focused on FLAT. I used only pictures, cards and labels.

Many Thanks Oval Card

I have a goal to use more of the shaped cards from the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, and I mean the different shapes not my go to scalloped square that I love so very much! This is the oval card and I added the great flower from the Card Word Puzzle Stamp set. I can always use Thank you cards, so I added the many thanks from the same stamp set-check out the stamp here.

Note box

Look at this cute little note box! About a month ago I saw a video on Youtube(I can't seem to find the link, but will keep looking. A big thanks to the original poster) and the person covered a box just like this. I ran out to Micheal's right away a got one! The best part is that it only cost 55 cents from the clearance bin!!! What a deal!!
I first painted the box with white paint and then covered it with pieces of vintage sewing pattern tissue paper. I added a few strips of boarder paper and some 3D Flowers. I cut the big yellow on the Cricut using the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge and then add the cute little resin flowers!!

May is the Month of Pemberley

Celebrate,it's your Birthday! I am celebrating because it's May and that means Pemberley! I can't wait to show you all the things I have made with this paper pack. For starters, I love the new wooden shapes from CTMH, this butterfly is one of my favorites and look how well it takes ink!!
