Around my House

I started my Christmas vacation today! I don't have to go back to work till next year! I slept late this morning, read the paper and had my coffee in a non-rushed mode! I thought I would show you a few things around my house today. The temp outside is already 68, and it should get up to almost 80 today which makes it hard to get into the Christmas spirit, but you would never know inside!
Over the years we have collected pencil Santa's from around the world as well as one for every year. I love getting them out each year and looking at all the little details. There are so many of them, some have to be on the lower part of the fireplace.
Here are the yearly collection-starting in 2002.

One of my very favorites is the American Santa.

And here is 2010 Santa.

The Christmas tree this year has ornaments from childhood up to now.

This one has 1983 on the back and is made from a mason jar lid. I love the vintage image in it, and can't believe how well the glitter has held up through the years.

I also have a collection of Children's Christmas books that I like to get out every year.

A favorite is the terra cotta Nativity scene.

And of course the Christmas Salt and Pepper Shakers-some day I will show all of that collection.

I have one set of glass cabinets in the kitchen, and this year I added my grandmothers Santa pitcher and cups. They are all chipped and the paint is worn off, but that because she let us play with them when we were little.

This tree is in the kitchen as well, and I call it the silver tree. My sister works for Hallmark, and so I have lots of Hallmark goodies, including this Christmas village from last year-they light up and play music!

Not sure if I will be back before Christmas, if not--Have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy this blessed season!

Cranberry Pistachio Bark

I made a really yummy treat today--I like to think that it is healthy, you know, cause it has nuts and cranberries in it. ;) That's just how I justify eating my fair share!

Cranberry Pistachio Bark
1 cup of dried sweetened cranberries
1 cup of chopped pistachios (beware these little nuts are expensive)
18 oz of white chocolate morsels (that's about a bag and a half)
Mix the cranberries and the nuts in a bowl and set aside. Heat the chocolate in double boiler over medium heat. Once all of the chocolate is melted add 1/2 of the cranberries and nuts. Pour in a foil lined baking sheet (I also spray lightly with cooking spray) and smooth out. Sprinkle the remaining cranberries and nuts over the top and press lightly with a rubber spoon. Let cool and then break into pieces.

Be back soon-

Nothings wrong, I just have a ton of things to get done, and the ol' blog is going to have to take a back seat for a bit. I will still be posting some things and I will for sure be doing my shows on Sundays, but I am way behind on things and need a week or so to get caught up.
Unless of course someone wants to come over and do the laundry, clean the house, wrap all the Christmas presents, get all the Christmas cards out, bake, Clean the scrap room, finish Christmas shopping, do the grocery shopping, cook............................

Easy Gifts

My next door neighbor is from Mexico, and on his last visit I asked him to bring me some Vanilla back-I sent him with $20 and told him to bring back as much as he could. Turns out in Mexico $20 goes a long way. I got these cute bottles at World Market and then added some paper and ribbon to dress them up. (NOTE: I still have Vanilla left....... it only took 2 jugs of Vanilla to fill up these 5 glass bottles)

And catch me live Sunday at 2 pm central time. I will be showing you how to Wet Stamp!

A reindeer and a wreath

For this card I used some vintage Christmas Sheet Music and stamped over it with some cranberry flourishes-I really like how it frames the focal point. That sweet little dear is popped up on foam dots to accommodate the wreath. I created the wreath with a scrap of Christmas twig from Michael's. I just bent it in a circle and hot glued it together.

Ledger Paper, Christmas Sheet Music and Fabric

At the end of my last online class I asked if anyone had any ideas for my next show, a suggestion was made to use fabric--I pulled out some scraps and started working. You will have to watch on Sunday to see what else I came up with, but for today I wanted to show you some fun Christmas tags and a little gift sack to put them in.
We all have those people we will be seeing just once before Christmas like the hair dresser or the dry cleaner that we need a simple little gift for-this is just it! A few tags packaged up that can be used for Christmas gifts or on a quick card.
Below you can see the packaging-I used a piece of chipboard covered with ledger paper and a few stamps. I then stuck the chipboard down into a glassine bag from my etsy store that I cut in half and punched a half circle out of. I decorated the bag with a piece of juniper cardstock and a scrap of fabric that I tore into strips.

I used a scallop punch and a hole punch to make a cute tag for the front of the bag (I hung it with a fishing lure and it can be removed and used as an additional Christmas tag!)

Below you can see each of the tags that are tucked inside of the packaging! That snowflake is a sticker that I picked up at Michael's in the dollar section.

Here I sewed on a scrap of fabric using the sewing machine and then fringed the edges to give it a vintage feel.

These super cute mittens are glitter rub-ons from Close to My Heart and of course paper ruffles add the perfect element to the tag.

One more glitter rub one and a scrap of fabric add the cutest element to this tag.

I used the color combo from Jeanette Lyton this week, be sure to stop by and see what she has made-all great projects. I hope my hair dresser likes this project!
